Sustained Investigation
Identify the question(s) or inquiry that guided your sustained investigation.
My sustained investigation surrounds itself with the idea of change. Who was I? And What changed me? They’re the main focal points of guiding my story. My Character’s present self serves his past. He doesn’t carry emotional baggage, instead, he uses that trauma to evolve into someone different. This story is an autobiography told using a medium I admire, manga. My character is trying to gain a better understanding of himself through examining that past in a dream-like world. In order to illustrate a feeling, I use mark-making, dialogue, and composition to translate that.
Describe how your sustained Investigation shows evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision guided by your question(s) or inquiry.
The concept of change exists everywhere in my work; evolving from traditional methods to digital media. The first images show the start of my learning and use the most accessible materials, but also an essential tool, the quill. Then I applied DELETER Halftone screens, which many manga artists use to illustrate value. Then I start scanning inked pages and coloring them digitally. My story ends with all digitally drawn pages which is how a lot of popular manga is made today. The transition of media compliments my question on the essence of human change.
